LITTLE LAMBS, BIG HOPE - ADRIAN GIFT

Adrian was born on 10th November 2021 to Juliet Samantha. He is her first-born and only child. They live in Bondeni Estate, an informal settlement in Nakuru County. Adrian’s grandmother, Beatrice, who shared his story with us, never knew or met Adrian’s father.

Juliet became pregnant and gave birth to Adrian while she was still in school and was a minor. She never revealed the identity of Adrian’s father, even after being pressured by the authorities to do so. In fact, because of this pressure, she disappeared three months after giving birth to Adrian, leaving him in the care of his grandmother, Beatrice.

Beatrice is also a single mother. She does not have a permanent source of income and relies on casual jobs, primarily doing laundry for pay in the estates surrounding Bondeni. Her income, however, is not enough to support her family because she is caring for not only Adrian but also eight other children.

Beatrice is raising three children who were left behind by her elder sister, who died some years ago. Another sister who also passed away left two children in her care, and her younger brother, who also died, left three children. Beatrice was not always a single mother. She was married until all these nieces and nephews came into her care. When her husband realized the magnitude of the responsibility of caring for all of them, he walked out on Beatrice and never returned.

With only her casual work to depend on, it has been a huge struggle for Beatrice to feed the children, keep them in school, and pay the rent for their small home.

As Adrian approached school-going age, Beatrice was certain that he would not be able to start school because she simply did not have the money to pay for his education.

One day, while working with another woman, Beatrice shared her situation. The woman told her about Little Lambs, which was located in a neighboring estate, and even volunteered to accompany Beatrice to the center.

At Little Lambs, they met with members of the staff, who welcomed them and explained more about the ministry and its programs. Beatrice asked if Adrian could be accepted into Little Lambs.

After all the verification steps were completed, Adrian qualified and joined Little Lambs Nakuru in January 2025. He is now in PP2.

Adrian is a brave boy who is very attentive and eager to learn in class. He enjoys rolling tires, running, sliding, and singing games.
